Hey, I’m Makayla and I’ve lived in the mountains of Virginia most of my life. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in media communications with a ministry minor from Southern Wesleyan University. I had aware that I had a passion for media since high school Yearbook class and felt the call to pursue that in college. However, God did not make it clear to me that His plan for that was in ministry until I was at a summer camp during my sophomore year. For a while, I struggled to believe in God’s plan for my life and being in ministry. However, with the help of mentors, professors, and friends, I began to discover what my call to ministry looked like.
Though I had grown up in church, I didn’t always understand what it looked like to follow Jesus. I began to discover more of who Jesus was and what He had called me to as I dove deeper into His Word and wrestled with my call to ministry. The Lord revealed to me my senior year of college that He wanted me to be in full-time vocational ministry—something I had previously written off. I felt so unworthy, overwhelmed, and astonished at this calling that the Lord had stirred within my heart. However, the Lord knew my heart for people, and He has allowed me to use my gifts to tell beautiful stories and connect with people on a deeper level.
